SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Mission Hills woman had a less than ideal start to her vacation after her suitcase was stolen waiting for a ride to the airport.

Laythe Hartwell is building several homes in the neighborhood and set up security cameras to catch tool thieves.

Surveillance footage from Wednesday morning shows a man drive through a neighborhood then steal a suitcase on the street corner.

Moments before the theft a woman is seen wheeling the bag out then pacing back to her home. Hartwell says the woman missed her flight because of the ordeal and asked him later that morning to look through the security images.

The contractor says the victim told him she had ordered a ride share to the airport and ran back inside to grab one more thing for her early flight when she thought her driver was showing up.

“I think he had a quick change of plans,” said Hartwell, “instead of picking her up for 5 bucks, he stole her suitcase.”

The victim is still on vacation and has not said if the ride share vehicle that was supposed to pick her up matched the thief’s.
