LA JOLLA SHORES, Calif. - A 19-year-old Spring Valley woman was publicly identified Sunday as the person found dead off the Scripps Pier on Saturday.
Alyssa Collette Pezzoli was spotted lifeless in the Pacific Ocean, about 100 yards northwest of the tip of the pier.
The discovery was reported to lifeguards at about 12:20 p.m. Saturday.
The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office released her name on Sunday but did not specify a cause of death. UC San Diego campus police are handling the death investigation, and have not indicated how her death may have occurred.
Police told 10News that there were no signs of trauma on the body.
On Saturday, city lifeguard officials said it was unclear how Pezzoli had been in the water.
Lifeguards recovered the body and brought it to the beach at the base of the pier Saturday afternoon. UCSD police were summoned for the investigation into Pezzoli's death, the Medical Examiner's Office reported, but it was not clear Sunday if the campus police remain in charge of the death investigation.
