Woman's body found after apparent hit-and-run in Ocean Beach

SAN DIEGO - A woman's body was found near a skateboard park on the side of Nimitz Boulevard early Saturday in Ocean Beach after an apparent hit-and-run crash.

The woman, a white female in her 20s, was believed to have been skateboarding on Nimitz when she was hit by an unknown vehicle, Officer Frank Cali said. Police say the woman was apparently struck from behind.

A driver passing by after sunrise spotted the woman's body and called police at 6:07 a.m., Cali said. Officers responded to the site and the woman was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene, Cali said.

The fatality was on a section of Nimitz where vehicles at near-freeway speeds are not uncommon, near the on-ramp to Interstate 8. A skateboard park is nearby at Robb Field.
