CHULA VISTA, Calif - A woman arrested after her pit bull attacked a 4- year-old girl outside a National City apartment building is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday at the courthouse in Chula Vista.Brittany Morgan Gardiner, 22, was taken into custody Wednesday morning as she allegedly tried to drive away from the Laurel Avenue apartment complex where she lives, according to police.
Gardiner's roughly 65-pound terrier mauled the child shortly before 10:30 a.m. when she tried to pet the animal in a grassy central courtyard at the apartment complex, where she and her family also live, according to police. Medics took the tot to Rady Children's Hospital in San Diego, where she was admitted in serious condition with injuries to her face and upper body, Lt. Keith Fifield said.
Gardiner was booked into county jail on suspicion of child endangerment, resisting police and allowing a vicious animal to inflict injury and was held in lieu of $100,000 bail pending arraignment.
