SAN DIEGO - A woman was ejected from a car in Spring Valley Friday morning after the vehicle she was traveling in crashed into a light pole.
The wreck occurred in the southbound lanes of state Route 125 where it meets SR-54.
10News crews at the scene said the white Mazda 3 sheered off the light pole -- an impact so severe that the entire engine of the car was ripped free from the chassis, coming to rest a few feet from the wreckage.
The woman was thrown about 30 feet from the vehicle.
A passing San Diego Police Department patrol officer, and a nurse driving by, spotted the woman and stopped to assist.
She was rushed to an area hospital. The extent of her injuries are unclear.
A witness told 10News that the driver of the car fled the scene, leaving the woman behind. Police have not confirmed who was driving the vehicle.
