Woman stabbed to death in El Cajon, son in custody

EL CAJON, Calif. - A young man was jailed Friday after he allegedly stabbed his mother and younger brother at their apartment near Parkway Plaza mall, killing the woman and leaving the teenager hospitalized.

At about 1 a.m., officers responding to a report of a family dispute in the 500 block of Ballantyne Street in El Cajon found the mortally wounded 39-year-old woman on a staircase. She died at the scene, Lt. Frank La Haye said.

Neighbor Joey Acosta was shocked and saddened by the incident.

"I was asleep, and I heard, 'Help! Help!'" Acosta said. "I saw somebody coming out. One kid got a slashmark cut."

Acosta said the woman's 14-year-old son was shirtless and his chest was soaked with blood. According to initial reports, someone stabbed him several times, slicing his arm open, cutting into his back, and even jabbing the knife in his chest right by his heart.

The injured boy was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital. His condition was not immediately released.

Officers arrested Mohammed Raad Agab, 20, on suspicion of carrying out the assaults on his family members, La Haye said.

Police disclosed no suspected motive for the stabbings.

Neighbors say they've heard fighting from that unit before, and some people who know the family told 10News the woman has changed the locks before because of her older son.

"That's real sad," Acosta said. "Real sad."

Agab was booked into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. He was being held without bail pending arraignment, scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
