A woman is in the hospital after an unusual rescue on I-805 in Normal Heights.
The crash happened around 10:30 p.m. Thursday. Witnesses said a car smashed into the back of a construction semi in the southbound lanes.
"I was watching it and told my girl 'that car's not slowing down - it's going to hit that semi.' And sure enough, " one witness said.
Following the crash, the driver climbed into the back seat of her car, locked the doors and then talked casually on her cell phone while first responders worked to rescue her. The vehicle had come to a stop on a slant in some bushes along the freeway.
Even as firefighters carried her off, the woman appeared unaffected by what had happened.
Witnesses said there was a man in the passenger seat who took off running and they think he could have been injured because the passenger side was crushed in the crash.
