Pictures and memories are all that Celeste Amorsolo has left.  "He's not coming back to me.  I won't be able to see him,” she said of her longtime love, David Sterner.

The 39-year-old Chula Vista man was identified as the victim of a fatal car accident Monday evening in Lakeside. Authorities say he was helping a friend move cars, when one of the vehicles started rolling away.

Investigators believe Sterner tried to climb into the truck in an attempt to stop it. The truck ultimately crashed into a tree in front of a house on Aurora Drive. Sterner’s body was found outside the vehicle.

“He would do everything for his friend, even if his life was at stake,” Amorsolo said. She and Sterner had been together for almost seven years.

Earlier that evening, Amorsolo said she had made plans to pick up Sterner at his friend’s house, just up the hill from the crash site.  She circled the area several times in search of him, and called his phone multiple times.

“He didn't answer his phone -- that is not like him at all,” she said.

She passed by the accident scene several times, but had no idea David was involved.

Eventually she circled back to the house of Sterner’s friend and noticed an officer out front.  She got out of her car and asked if he knew where Sterner was.

Amorsolo said the officer gave her a hug and said, “I'm sorry Celeste... David... he was the person in the accident.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help cover cremation and funeral expenses.
