SAN DIEGO - An 87-year-old motorist involved in a collision in Mission Bay Park Wednesday was pronounced dead at a hospital.
The woman was unable to keep her Peugeot sedan from crashing into a Saturn that exited a hotel parking lot in front of her in the 1700 block of East Mission Bay Drive shortly before noon, according to San Diego police.
Medics found the senior citizen with a facial cut, a serious upper-leg injury and no pulse, SDPD Officer Frank Cali said. They performed CPR at the scene, then took her to a trauma center, where she was pronounced dead. Her name was withheld pending family notification.
The 26-year-old driver of the Saturn was evaluated at a hospital due to abdominal pain she was suffering following the wreck.
A parked vehicle also was damaged when the younger woman's car veered out of control and struck it, Cali said.
