The woman was driving her 2000 Nissan Sentra westbound in the 500 block of Sea World Dive at about 5:29 a.m. Friday when she sideswiped a light pole and drove off the road, down an embankment and into a tree, said San Diego police Officer Frank Cali.

She was taken to a hospital with serious but non-life threatening head and internal injuries and was expected to survive, he said.

Cali said alcohol was involved in the crash.
