Authorities on Monday identified the 51-year-old woman who was fatally struck as she tried to climb out of a moving pickup truck on an El Cajon street.

Maria Josephine Newman of La Mesa was a passenger in an older model pickup truck headed north in the 300 block of Orlando Street near East Main Street shortly after noon Saturday, the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office reported.Newman was spotted hanging on to the truck's passenger side before falling off and being hit, according to El Cajon police. The driver sped away, police said. She died at the scene.The suspect vehicle was described as a light blue 1969 to 1972 Chevy pickup with a white stripe and a faded white camper shell. The truck may have some type of construction sign on the driver's door.
