Woman bitten by snake at Balboa Park near cactus garden

SAN DIEGO - A woman was bitten by a snake near the cactus garden in Balboa Park on Sunday and was taken to a hospital.

The incident was reported at about 1:50 p.m. near Park Boulevard at Village Place. Police say someone who was with the woman flagged down officers working at the Earth Fair festivities, who then called paramedics.

A dispatcher with the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department said it was unknown what kind of snake bit the woman, but her injury was likely not serious.

She was taken to an area hospital. There is no word on her condition at this time.
