Woman accused of stabbing boyfriend to death

SAN DIEGO - A 47-year-old woman was taken into custody Wednesday on suspicion of fatally stabbing her longtime boyfriend and leaving his body in the San Diego River.

Jayne Marie Colantonio of San Diego was booked into Las Colinas women's jail in Santee on suspicion of first-degree murder about 12:30 a.m., according to San Diego police.

About 6 1/2 hours earlier, a fisherman found the dead man in the river near Friars Road in the Grantville area. During resuscitation efforts, paramedics found a stab wound in his chest, homicide Sgt. Manuel Del Toro said.

Police on Tuesday evening announced that they had identified two persons of interest who knew the victim and were detained for questioning, but police did not identify them. One of those persons was Colantonio, Del Toro said Wednesday morning, adding that the other was booked on an unrelated allegation.

The identity of the victim, who was in his 40s, was withheld pending family notification.

Colantonio was in custody without bail pending arraignment, scheduled for Friday afternoon.

The motive for the alleged slaying was unclear.
