SAN DIEGO - Strong winds knocked out power to hundreds of people in the far eastern reaches of East County Wednesday morning.
According to San Diego General & Electric’s website, 1,700 customers were without power as of 8 a.m. The effected communities included Descanso, Japatul Valley, Buckman Spring, Mount Laguna and Alpine.
Meanwhile, overnight strong winds caused an outage that left 662 customers in the same area. The outage struck at 1:18 a.m. and affected the areas of Descanso, Cuyamaca, Viejas, Boulder Creek, Pine Valley and Mount Laguna. By 4 a.m., power was restored.
A high wind warning was in effect for local valley and mountain areas for the second consecutive day today. The National Weather Service issued the warning until 5 p.m. Thursday, saying peak wind gusts of 60-80 miles per hour were likely today.
