CAMPO, Calif. - One of a series of wind machines along Interstate 8 near the Golden Acorn Casino in Campo exploded and caught fire Monday, igniting a small brush fire that covered half an acre before being extinguished by a joint effort of the Campo Indian Reservation Fire Department and Cal Fire.
No injuries were reported and no homes were threatened or damaged.
David Elliott lives just down the hill from the wind machine farm and told 10News he is worried about environmental dangers and wildfire.
"I'd have been in trouble down at my house because of all this brush and the wind … plenty of fuel," said Elliott. "If the wind had been blowing from the west today, it would've took off and I'd have been very concerned."
10News contacted the Campo reservation office asking about the cause and investigation but were refused comment.
All wind machines on the farm have been shut down as a precaution.
