Mayor-elect Kevin Faulconer, who won Tuesday's heated special election with 137,296 votes, is expected to begin his term Monday, Mar. 3.

Here are some quick facts you should know about San Diego's next mayor:

1. Age: 47

2. Birth city: Oxnard

3. Education: Bachelor's degree in political science from San Diego State University

4. Career history: Faulconer has served on the San Diego City Council since 2006 representing District 2. In the past, he was an executive with public relations and lobbying firm Porter Novelli. He and his wife also own an event company, Restaurant Events.

5. Party affiliation: Republican
6. What makes his win unique: His win means San Diego will be the country's largest city with a Republican mayor.

Faulconer will serve the remainder of former Mayor Bob Filner's term, who resigned in Aug. 2013.  He'll earn $100,464.
