(KGTV)--So, you didn't get your taxes done on time this year. What do you do?

Turbo Tax offers thefollowing advice

  • If you're due a refund, don't sweat it. You have until April 18, 2020 to file your 2016 taxes if the government owes you a refund. If you wait until after this date, the statute of limitations on the refund will run out.
  • However, if you owe tax, file as soon as possible, even if you can't pay your bill right away. The late filing penalty can be 10 times higher than the late-payment penalty.
  • Can you file for an extension after April 18? Only if you were out of the country. In that case, you have until June 15, 2017. Note: The IRS will still charge interest on any unpaid taxes after April 18.
