SAN DIEGO - Starting Wednesday morning, a block of West Broadway in downtown San Diego will be closed to accommodate work on a $28 million waterfront beautification project.
The road will be off limits to traffic between Pacific Highway and North Harbor Drive during the morning commute and stay closed until sometime this summer, according to the Port of San Diego.
The section closed to vehicles will be open to pedestrians.
Crews need to move or install new utility lines, as well as adjust grading along the road and repave it.
The port is building a 105-foot-wide esplanade along the Embarcadero that included formal gardens, plazas and shade pavilions. The project also includes upgrades to roads and storm water systems.
