Starting Nov. 6, Spirit Airlines will charge passengers $100 to check an oversized, carry-on luggage at the gate.
The airline said it wants to discourage passengers from waiting until boarding to realize their carry-on baggage does not fit. According to WXYZ-TV, the previous fee was $45.
Spirit said those checking bags in advance pay as little as $20 per bag.
According to WXYZ-TV, the airlines was fined by the Department of Transportation for deceptive pricing in ads and tweets. The airline was found also to fail to respond and track complaints submitted by disabled passangers.
