PROVIDENCE, R.I. - No more lap dogs -- at least not behind the wheel.

A lawmaker in Rhode Island wants to put the brakes on people driving with their pooches in their laps.

Under State Rep. Peter Palumbo's proposal, driving with a canine co-pilot in your lap could result in an $85 ticket.

Palumbo says he loves dogs "as much as anyone," but driving that way is a danger to pets and to people.
