Lawmakers in New Mexico are considering a bill that would ban registered sex offenders from Facebook and other social media sites.

The bill would make it a misdemeanor for a registered sex offender to use instant messaging or chat rooms. It would be a felony on the second offense.

Other states, such as Texas, have proposed a bill that would force certain sex offenders to reveal their offense on their profile, including the location of where it happened, their full name, birthday and physical description.

Critics say these bills violate a person's Constitutional rights.
