Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) has introduced a bill to allow governors to use the National Guard for school security.
The Save Our Schools Act would allow guard troops to stand outside school entrances or work to improve school infrastructure.
The bill is modeled on the law that allows states to use the National Guard for border security support.
Boxer said some of the $640 billion dollars spent on National Defense should be used to protect schools.
