Water main break floods Pacific Beach streets, leaves homes without water

SAN DIEGO - Water gushed for nearly three hours after a 12-inch cast iron pipe burst in a busy area of Pacific Beach early Thursday morning, leaving several homes without water.

The water main break was reported at around 3 a.m. in the area of Ingraham and Missouri streets. The water was flowing down Missouri as far as Mission Boulevard, flooding sidewalks and causing issues for drivers.

City Public Utilities Department crews were unable to shut off the water until just before 6 a.m., but by then, water had gushed onto the streets for nearly three hours.

At least 20 homes in the 4700 and the 4800 blocks of Ingraham Street were without water service, according to city spokesperson Scott Robinson.

Affected street were still being repaired as of 5 p.m., but 10News learned water service was restored for all affected businesses and residences at about 1 p.m.

Although no roads were closed, drivers were advised to avoid the area.

According to city of San Diego data, there were 75 water main breaks between June 1, 2015 and June 1, 2016. The breaks accounted for a total of 11.28 million gallons of lost water.
