SAN DIEGO - Crews continued their work Friday to repair a water main break in the Midway District that snarled traffic and prompted evacuations at a nearby hotel.
The break occurred just before 4 p.m. Thursday in the parking lot of the Loma Square shopping center in the 3300 block of Rosecrans Street, near Midway
By evening, workers turned off the water in the area and several businesses in the shopping center as well as the nearby Super 8 Motel were without service.
Crews worked through the night to repair the 12-inch main that poured water into the area.
Visitors at the Super 8 motel were evacuated. Gas and electricity was also shut down.
"Just a river of water coming in," a manager for the motel said Thursday night. "We had to relocate all of our guests tonight and tomorrow is the same thing, probably Saturday -- weekends we're busy."
Two lanes of eastbound Rosecrans Street were closed temporarily as crews worked. As of 5:30 p.m. Thursday, the lanes were reopened.
Water was restored in the area at 6:30 a.m. Friday, more than 12 hours after the break occurred.
