VISTA, Calif. - A Vista family called Team 10 after they said a mistake by the city caused raw sewage to spew into their home. They say they have been waiting for the city of Vista to fix the home for more than a month.
Eva Crull had to cover her nose when she walked into her home on Louie Place.
"The toilet started spewing," she said.
Crull said raw sewage overflowed from the toilet in the master bathroom, a toilet in the second bathroom and the bathtub.
The incident occurred while Vista city crews were working on a manhole in front of the home more than a month ago. Eloisa Morales, Crull's sister, was sleeping on the couch when it happened.
"It was really awful … something that didn't need to happen if you just took pride in your job, you know? Care about what you are doing," said Morales.
They rushed to get their mother and brother out of the home. Both have health issues.
"I went into my brother's room and I said get all of your medicine together and let's get out of here," said Morales.
Crull, her mother and brother have been living with Morales ever since.
They said an adjustor from the city told them they will spend $12,000 to clean and repair the items covered in sewage, but the family wants the sinks, toilets and tiled floors replaced. They say cleaning it is not enough.
"We want the same things they would want for themselves," said Morales.
A spokeswoman for the city of Vista is looking into the incident.
