Vista brush fire destroys car

SAN DIEGO - Firefighters were able to knock down a small brush fire early Wednesday morning, but not before it destroyed a car in Vista.

The blaze broke out just after 2 a.m. at State Route 76 and Old River Road, under the Bonsall Bridge.

Vista Fire Department crews responded and extinguished the blaze quickly. It burned about one-eighth of an acre. The burned car was about 50 feet off the side of the road. There were no reported injuries.

"It's very dry brush right now, and as you can see from the fires going up north, there is quite a bit of potential,” said Vista Fire Capt. Sam Craig. “We're down in a river bottom, where we do know there are some encampments, and there will be potential people getting harmed or injured from this. Thankfully, there was very little wind going on down here."

The cause is under investigation.
