POWAY, Calif. - A violent sex offender with a history of kidnapping is back behind bars after he was found hiding in the garage of a Poway home.
U.S. marshals with the Fugitive Task Force had information that Roberto Sanchez had been staying at the house on Jenell Street. The 48-year-old has a long criminal record.
"I would say he's very dangerous considering he has a violent history," said Dante Salazar, who is with the U.S. Marshals Service. "He's been arrested for kidnapping, sexual battery, spousal battery, auto theft."
The Marshals Fugitive Task Force and sheriff's deputies swarmed the home Tuesday looking for Sanchez. Turns out, it was his parents' house.
His mother agreed to talk to 10News anchor Itica Milanes as long as her face was not shown.
She told 10News she has been crying for 24 hours. Her son had been staying with her during the day and sleeping in his car at night.
Sanchez, a convicted sex offender, by law has to register his address with the San Diego County Sheriff's Department on a regular basis. His mother said she and her husband had driven Sanchez to register several times. They had no idea he failed to do it again, making him a wanted fugitive.
She showed 10News exactly where officers found Sanchez. He was in the garage, crouched down behind a laundry basket. In a panic, his mother said he ran and hid. She is a broken mother, sad and angry at her son who she says should have known this day would come.
