Violent fugitive may be headed to San Diego

SAN DIEGO - Kevin Briggs, 28, is a convicted felon and registered sex offender.

Special agent Darrell Foxworth of the FBI told 10News he may be armed, dangerous and suicidal. Foxworth said they are looking into Briggs either being in or heading for the southern California area.

According to police in Montana, three weeks ago Briggs’ former girlfriend woke up to him trying to have sex with her.  He strangled her and then grabbed a knife and threatened to hurt himself.

Bozeman officers tracked Briggs down and said he gave a fake name and ran off.

Officers were able to catch up with him, and said he put up a fight, punching one of them in the face.  Briggs attempted to take off again, but they got him cuffed and into an interrogation room.

His attempt to run wasn’t over, there was oversight, and in his third attempt to break free surveillance video captured him hobble right out of jail with his hands and feet in shackles.

Foxworth says Briggs has some stand-out features.

He is 5 feet, 5 inches tall, he has pierced ears, two lip rings and a belly ring. He has a sunburst tattoo around his right nipple and one on his underarm.

Briggs was spotted in San Francisco and just last week Berkeley and Oakland.

According to the FBI, Briggs may be staying in homeless shelters and they believe he could be working his way toward the San Ysidro border crossing.

In the meantime, Foxworth says he is likely getting by with day labor gigs.

A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered to find and arrest him.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the suspect is urged to contact their nearest FBI office or dial 911.
