Video shows sheriff's department dog taking down suspect in Lakeside

LAKESIDE, Calif. - 10News has exclusive video of a sheriff's department dog taking down a crime-spree suspect who led deputies on a high-speed chase from Alpine to Lakeside on Tuesday.

"He just gets nailed," said Lakeside resident Brandon Cruse.

He and many other neighbors ran outside when they heard the commotion and police sirens.

"We heard the helicopters saying, 'Stop running or we'll release the dogs,'" said Cruse.

That is exactly what police did. In video from a neighbor's home security system, the male suspect is seen running from a backyard to find a sheriff's department dog on his trail.

"You see him jumping over the fence," said Cruse."You see him running. He thinks he's got it, but the dog comes running and he gets taken down."

Deputies arrested the man and a woman who was with him. Authorities initially tried to stop the duo in Alpine when they discovered the SUV the pair was inside was stolen.

The two are also wanted in connection with a series of commercial burglaries in San Diego, Santee, La Mesa, Alpine and Lakeside.
