VIDEO: Navy corpsman surprises girlfriend at work

SAN DIEGO - A local woman received the ultimate Christmas surprise Monday when her Navy corpsman boyfriend returned home a day early.

Navy Corpsman Robert Everhart's girlfriend, Michelle Gungon, is a nurse at Sharp Memorial Hospital. She thought he was still in Texas, where he is stationed.

Everhart said, "I'm going to propose to my girlfriend of two and a half years ... I'm supposed to be here tomorrow. She thinks she's picking me up from the airport."

Instead, she was waiting around a corner with her friends and co-workers for what she thought was a commercial shoot for the hospital.

"She's going to be really shocked to see me here," said Everhart.

Everhart's mother works at the hospital and set the two up when Gungon noticed a picture of her son.

Almost everyone at the hospital was in on the surprise visit and kept it a secret for weeks.

Everhart's next surprise was something he had up his sleeve -- so to speak -- and shocked the entire room.

"Actually, a year ago, I already knew that I wanted to marry him. But, or course, you [have to] wait for the perfect timing," said Gungon.
