SAN DIEGO - A transit security officer was injured after being dragged along a street with his arm caught inside a taxicab Wednesday afternoon.

A Metropolitan Transit System officer responded to the scene of a hit-and-run involving a taxicab at Kettner Boulevard and West Harbor Drive shortly before 11:30 a.m., according to San Diego Harbor Police.

As the officer asked for the driver's license, the cab took off and dragged the officer along Kettner Blvd. while his arm was still inside the vehicle. Witness video showed the officer being flipped over before his arm was released, landing in the street just outside Seaport Village.

The condition of the officer was not immediately released.

The driver of the cab was apprehended shortly after the incident. A second officer involved in the incident was transported to a nearby hospital to be checked out.

The circumstances behind the hit-and-run and why the driver fled were not immediately clear.

According to Harbor Police, the suspect was identified as 27-year-old Gabriel Zavala. He was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
