VIDEO: Girl asks for help after kidnapping

SAN DIEGO - Surveillance video obtained by 10News shows a 12-year-old girl moments after she runs into a gas station to report that she was kidnapped and sexually assaulted.

According to San Diego police, the young girl was walking near the 4700 block of F Street at about 7 p.m. on Monday when a man forced her into his vehicle at gunpoint and drove away.

Police said the man drove a few blocks south and then sexually assaulted the girl. It remains unclear if the man dropped her off or if she got away and ran to 47th and Market streets in the Chollas View area.

In the video, the girl runs into the gas station and asks for help. She tells the men behind the counter what happened, and then tells a customer -- a woman in a soccer or sports uniform -- to help her call her family and call authorities.

The video then shows the woman in the uniform briefly consoles her and then calls 911.

The suspect is described as a black man, about 40 to 50 years old with tattoos on his hands and halfway up his arm. He was wearing a black ski mask, shirt and pants.

Police said he was armed with a handgun and was driving an older black SUV or van.

Some parents of children at nearby schools were in disbelief when they learned of the incident.

"People are doing things to kids, it's hurtful," said parent Nahni Goodwin. "He needs to get whatever he deserves."

Police told 10News they are trying to get surveillance video from other nearby businesses and homes in their effort to catch the suspect.
