Victor David Bernal arrested in connection with South Bay armed robbery series

CHULA VISTA, Calif. - A 23-year-old man was jailed Tuesday for allegedly committing four armed robberies at a convenience store and a restaurant in his South Bay hometown in recent months.

Investigators arrested Victor David Bernal of Chula Vista about 7 a.m., according to police.

Bernal is suspected of carrying out holdups at a 7-Eleven in the 1400 block of Hilltop Drive on Oct. 28, and at a taco shop in the 1300 block of Third Avenue on Nov. 23, Dec. 24 and Sunday, Lt. Kenny Heinz said.

During each of the crimes, the perpetrator wore camouflage fatigues and a ski mask, and threatened victims with a pistol while demanding cash, the lieutenant said.
