Victim takes cab to hospital after Gaslamp hotel room shooting

SAN DIEGO - A man was shot in the hand in a 12th story room at the Hard Rock Hotel in downtown San Diego’s Gaslamp District overnight Sunday.

The shooting occurred at about midnight at 207 5th Ave. San Diego police at the scene said the victim was shot and then caught a taxi to Scripps Mercy Hospital.

Officers responded and searched the hotel room, where they reportedly found drugs and a gun. A second man was arrested, but not in connection with the shooting.

Investigators were unsure if the victim shot himself accidentally or by someone else. According to police, his story changed several times while being interviewed.

No names were released. The investigation is ongoing.
