SANTEE, Calif. (KGTV) - At least seven cars were damaged in a Santee neighborhood late Tuesday night by vandals firing a pellet gun.

Sheriff's officials said the shots were fired on Mission Greens Road, near Mission Viejo Court, just after 11 p.m.

A resident told 10News he saw a Ford Explorer SUV with four people inside driving south on Mission Greens Road when he heard what he thought was gunfire. He said he saw one of the passengers pointing a firearm at parked cars.

As the SUV passed the resident's apartment, he said the gunman took aim at him and fired several shots in his direction. The SUV drove off, and the resident -- who was not injured -- called 911 to report the shooting.

Deputies arrived to find car windows shot out and shattered glass on the street. Deputies believe the gun used in the shooting was a high-powered pellet gun.

A similar incident occurred about a block away on Buena Vista Avenue last year, where vandals smashed car windshields and taillights with rocks.
