USS Cape St. George To Deploy Today
Cruiser To Meet Up With Lincoln Strike Group

The guided-missile cruiser USS Cape St. George is set to leave its homeport of San Diego Wednesday for a regularly scheduled deployment to the western Pacific Ocean and Middle East.

The 567-foot-long vessel and its crews of about 400 will meet up with several other warships led by the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, according to the Navy. The Lincoln is also scheduled to deploy this week but is departing from Everett, Wash.Among the other warships joining the Lincoln strike group is the guided-missile destroyer USS Sterett, which left San Diego Tuesday with about 350 sailors aboard.The Cape St. George is named for the World War II Battle of Cape St. George in which a U.S. Navy destroyer force defeated a Japanese destroyer force.Copyright Do you have more information about this story?
