A Valley Center man is undergoing surgery after a pack of dogs mauled him and his brother Sunday evening as they were out for a run with two sisters and a 9-year-old niece near Valley Center Middle School, according to the mans sister.

Richard Garritson, 21, was airlifted to a hospital with bite marks to both his calves, said Heather Pichenor. John Garritson, 18, was also injured, but not as severely, when he and his brother tried to fend off the six dogs, Pichenor said.Lt. Maria Wood of the Sheriffs Department said deputies responded to a call about 5:35 p.m. of two men attacked by dogs on Cobb Lane near Coolwater Ranch Lane but had no other information.
