Report: 1 dead from Mesa bridge collapse

MESA, Ariz. - Firefighters say a man has died and another has been hospitalized after a Mesa bridge support collapsed.
KNXV-TV reported that Forrest Smith with the Mesa Fire Department said two people were initially trapped by the bridge at the construction site near Hawes Road and the Loop 202.
Smith said officials were able to manually extricated one person, but another worker who is still under the rubble has been pronounced dead.
The survivor was flown to a nearby hospital for treatment. His condition hasn't been released.
The collapse occurred as crews worked on the new Arizona Route 24 Gateway Freeway, which will connect Ellsworth Road with Loop 202.
Mesa Fire Department Capt. Forrest Smith says crew members were building temporary support structures for the construction.
No other details were available.
