SAN DIEGO - Four people are in the hospital Friday after multiple crashes on northbound Interstate 805 just north of Interstate 8.
The crash happened at 11 p.m. Thursday.
A witness told 10News that a driver initially hit a yellow Chevy van, which was left disabled. The driver of the van had to go through the windshield to escape.
The witness said that after a couple of good Samaritans pulled over and attempted to help, their vehicles were also hit by another car hurtling down the freeway.
In all, five people were involved in the pile up and five cars were mangled. Four were taken to an area hospital. It is unclear what their conditions are.
Initial reports indicate that the first crash was caused by a suspected DUI driver. 10News learned that the driver was arrested.
