GOLETA, Calif. - Authorities on Sunday have identified the three men found stabbed to death in the California apartment of Elliot Rodger, who police say fatally shot three others in a killing spree that ended with the suspect's suicide.
According to a news release from the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office, the victims are 20-year-old Cheng Yuan Hong of San Jose; 19-year-old George Chen, also from San Jose; and 20-year-old Weihan Wang of Fremont. All three were UC Santa Barbara students.
Hong and Chen are listed on the lease for the apartment as tenants, along with Rodger. Investigators are in the process of determining whether Wang was also a roommate or was visiting.
Santa Barbara District Attorney Joyce Dudley said Hong was involved in a case involving stolen candles. Sheriff's officials mentioned that case at a Saturday press conference, saying Rodger contacted authorities reporting his roommate had stolen candles.
Hong was charged with petty theft, and Dudley says he pleaded guilty.
