Authorities believe fugitive Kevin Anthony Briggs may be in Southern California area

Briggs may be heading to Mexico, authorities say

SAN DIEGo - Authorities are searching for a convicted felon and registered sex offender from Montana who is believed to be in the Southern California area and possibly heading to Mexico.

Kevin Anthony Briggs is suspected of attacking a woman and a police officer in Bozeman, Mont., on Feb. 1, according to authorities. However, shortly after he was apprehended, Briggs escaped from custody, prompting authorities to obtain a "federal unlawful flight to avoid prosecution warrant."

Authorities believe Briggs bought a bus ticket from Missoula, Mont., to Spokane, Wash. He has not been seen since.

At the time of the incident, Briggs was on probation for a 2004 conviction of sexual intercourse without consent, aggravated kidnapping, escape and burglary in Lewis and Clark County, Mont.

Authorities said Briggs should be considered armed and dangerous, and suicidal.

Anyone who spots Briggs is urged to contact the FBI.
