Two shoplifting suspects captured outside San Marcos Fry's store

SAN MARCOS - Deputies reportedly engaged in a scuffle and confiscated a knife from one of two shoplifting suspects outside a Fry’s Electronics store Sunday in San Marcos.

According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, Forty-four-year-old Andrew Miller and 35-year-old Nathan Montz were caught trying to sneak items out of the store, located at 150 S. Bent Ave.

Loss prevention officers observed Miller trying to take items off the shelf and walk out, the sheriff’s department said. He was arrested without incident outside.

However, when Montz exited the store and was confronted by deputies outside, he tried to run away. The sheriff’s department said he stumbled and fell, hitting his head on the pavement and scraping his forearm. As deputies were trying to handcuff him, he allegedly tried to reach for a knife in his waistband.

Deputies seized stolen items from the men. Both were charged with commercial burglary and conspiracy. Montz faces an additional count of resisting arrest.

The two are lodged in the San Diego County Jail.
