SAN DIEGO – Police say a man shot another man and then shot himself early Friday morning in the Webster neighborhood during a dispute.

San Diego police report the shooting occurred at around 2:25 a.m. in the area of an ampm convenience store at 4333 Home Avenue.

According to police, 27-year-old Darik Tesera called 911 to report that he had sustained a gunshot wound to his leg. Arriving officers learned that Tesera had been involved in an argument with a 43-year-old Hispanic man when Tesera produced a gun and shot the man several times and then shot himself in the leg. Police did not disclose if Tesera shot himself accidentally or intentionally.

A couple who were driving by told 10News they stopped and provided first aid to the victim until paramedics could arrive.

“My husband said there's a guy pointing to another guy with a gun in the middle of the street, and then soon after that I heard the shots,” a woman told 10News. “We start calling 911 and made a U-turn to make sure the guy was OK.”

Both Tesera and the victim were taken by ambulance to nearby hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. The victim was not named.

Police at the scene believe the shooting may have been related to a drug sale.

Home Avenue was shut down for several hours between Interstate 805 and Fairmont Avenue. The roadway was reopened just before 7 a.m.

It was unclear what charges Tesera would face.
