SAN DIEGO - An unoccupied runaway tree-trimming truck rolled down a sloping street in Scripps Ranch on Wednesday afternoon, striking a person and several vehicles before crashing to a halt into a home.
The incident occurred in the 10200 block of Mesa Madera Drive shortly before 3:30 p.m., according to San Diego police.
According to a witness, the truck -- which had a chipper attached to the back --just started rolling down and hit three other trucks.
The runaway truck also hit one of the workers for the tree-trimming company. The worker suffered a fractured pelvis but is expected to survive, police said.
Medics took the injured person to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla to be treated, San Diego Fire-Rescue Department spokesman Maurice Luque said.
The tree-trimming truck hit a black pickup truck before coming to rest into a home, pushing the pickup truck inside. No one inside the home was injured.
Emergency crews deactivated a natural gas line ruptured in the crash and sent for a city building inspector to determine whether the damaged residence was habitable pending repairs, Luque said.
The circumstances that led to the accident were not immediately clear.
