Trash truck fire closes part of road in Sorrento Valley

Truck dumped burning load onto roadway

SAN DIEGO - Part of a road in Sorrento Valley was closed Tuesday after a trash truck had to dump its load on the roadway.

The incident was reported at about 12:10 p.m. at the intersection of Sorrento Valley Boulevard and Vista Sorrento Parkway.

According to authorities, a trash truck was carrying a load that somehow caught fire. The truck then dumped the load onto the road so it could be extinguished. Crews from the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department quickly put out the fire.

Northbound Vista Sorrento Parkway has been closed at Sorrento Valley Boulevard while crews clean up, according to San Diego police.

As of 4 p.m., the lanes were still closed. There is no word on when the lanes will reopen.
