SAN DIEGO - The giant crown of a palm tree fell into the yard of a Point Loma home Tuesday, narrowly missing the house by inches.

San Diego police said they believe the top of the tree fell overnight in the 1000 block of Bangor Street. Some of the roof tiles were damaged, likely caused by the crown.

Neighbor Walter Haase told 10News the tree has been in the neighborhood for more than 40 years.

"It fell on the porch, the deck, so quite lucky that house wasn't impacted by the falling branches … this happens from time to time; I've seen it before, but still, in general, the trees are very safe," said Haase.

Another neighbor told 10News the trees were scheduled to be cut down Wednesday.
