Three Teens Jailed In Fatal Gang-Related Shooting

Victim Had No Known Gang Ties

Two teenagers were behind bars and facing murder charges Thursday for an Oceanside shooting that left an 18-year-old man dead and two other people wounded, authorities reported.

At about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, gunfire rang out in the 700 block of Paradise Cove Way, fatally wounding Jesse Watson, according to police.

A short time later, investigators found two other gunshot victims near Redondo Drive and North River Road, a few miles from where Watson died, OPD Sgt. Leonard Mata said.

Detectives arrested Maurice Brandon Christiansen and Jordan Potts, both 18, and a 15-year-old boy, all alleged gang members, on Wednesday.

Christiansen and Potts were held without bail on suspicion of murder, conspiracy and criminal gang involvement, pending arraignments set for Friday afternoon in Vista.

The minor, whose name was withheld because of his age, was booked into juvenile hall. He faces the same potential charges as Christiansen and Potts.

Watson had no known gang ties, Mata said.

Investigators are trying to pin down a motive for the shooting and to determine what roles the surviving victims, who are expected to recover, played in it, the sergeant added.
