SAN DIEGO - More than 10,000 people were expected Thursday for Father Joe's Villages Thanksgiving Day 5K.
The 11th annual event raises money for programs that help homeless men, women and children in the community.
This year, a raffle will also be held as part of the fundraiser. Winners will get a luxury motor home and a car.
The run and walk started at 7:45 a.m. by the San Diego Museum of Man in Balboa Park.
Proceeds from the registration and the raffle will go towards programs by Father Joe's Villages.
"These are programs that help homeless individuals regain their self-sufficiency--from children and families to adults and military veterans," said Sister Patricia Cruise, president and CEO, in a statement.
"Each registration truly is an investment in the future of San Diego."
