CHULA VISTA, Calif. -
Chula Vista police are looking for two men who used a cutting torch in an attempt to rob an ATM early Wednesday morning.
The attempted theft took place at a Chase Bank in the 500 block of Telegraph Canyon Road at about 2 a.m., according to police.
Police said the thieves first tried prying the doors open, and then used a blowtorch, before eventually giving up.
The two men left empty-handed, but they managed to trip a silent alarm. Police said the incident was recorded by a surveillance camera at the bank.
Police said the men left the scene in a tan or gold sport utility vehicle.
No cash was stolen from the machine, but it remained out of service Wednesday morning.
10News learned a similar attempt to steal from an ATM at the same Chase Bank was made August 20. Police said Wednesday's incident and the Aug. 20 attempt were very similar, but there is no word if the two cases are connected.
The suspected thieves in the Aug. 20 case fled the scene in a white pickup truck.
