CHULA VISTA (KGTV) – A Chula Vista family hopes police find the thief who broke into their car and made off with some priceless violins.

Hyung Min Cho says his family woke up to find that the trunk and doors to their car was open Friday morning. They discovered some items were missing including two violins that belonged to his 12-year-old son and 10-year-old daughter.

“Their grandfather, my father, brought those violins for them,” Cho said. “So yeah, that’s kind of meaningful.”

The violins were from Korea, where the children’s grandfather lives.

Cho says his kids also need the violins because they are auditioning for the children’s symphony in two weeks.

“My daughter told me she felt like she wanted to cry,” Cho said.  The family is shopping for new violins but says they may be able to borrow violins from a family friend in the meantime.

The thief also stole camping equipment and a skateboard.

A camera in their car captured the theft including a possible hooded suspect.

The family admits last night they left their garage open, and their car unlocked.
